If you look in Google for the results of how joblessness and a down economy effects drinking and driving you won't find much at all. Actually, you won't find anything in the first couple of pages. But think about this for a moment. And I'm basing most of this on what's going on here in Michigan. Especially the two biggest counties which are Wayne and Oakland.

It's no secret that the Michigan economy is not good at this point. Michigan's unemployment rate is at a high of 14%. Ouch!!!

Sometimes people look for an escape. Sometimes people find that escape in a substance either legal or illegal. A father of three, laid off from one of the auto plants a couple of years ago hasn't been able to make ends meet. His unemployment benefits may not cover enough to put food on the table or worse, his benefits maybe about to run out. So he starts to consult more now than ever alcohol. He's drinking way more than he used too. Or, what about the single mother of two, her job was downsized a year ago and she can't find work, she's been looking but nothings there , and it's rough. These are to examples of many where drinking is abused and used to help people escape their troubles. Now that's troubling enough that someone's abusing alcohol in part because they can't find work and make ends meet but what's worse is when they get behind the wheel of a car and drive drunk.

I interviewed a Wayne County Dui Attorney named Bo Schimer about Dui’s and Drivers Restoration. It was an interesting conversation and one thing that I thought of as I talked to Bo was that an individual could avoid all of these problems just by making the right decisions when it comes to drinking and driving. And the best decision one could make is don't do it.

The main thing is that driving drunk or under the influence here in Michigan can carry some stiff penalties so choose wisely who represents you.

But more importantly, "think before you drink."
